Answer:
Mme Loisel is a young and beautiful woman, but she is very dissatisfied with her life. She dreams of living a rich and luxurious life. Because she is not wealthy and lives a simple life, she always feels unhappy and complains about her situation.

Answer:
Her husband, Mr Loisel, is a simple and kind man. He works as a clerk and is satisfied with his life. He cares for his wife and tries to make her happy.

Question 1What fresh problem now disturbs Mme Loisel?
Answer:
After getting a beautiful dress, Mme Loisel feels worried again. She thinks she has no jewellery to wear with the dress. Because of this, she feels unhappy and even asks her husband to give the invitation to someone else.

Answer:
Mr Loisel helps his wife solve the problem. First, he suggests that she wear fresh flowers, but she does not like the idea. Then he advises her to borrow jewellery from her rich friend, Mme Forestier. She borrows a beautiful diamond necklace from her friend.

Answer:
Mr and Mme Loisel try hard to find the lost necklace. Mr Loisel goes out to search for it. He also visits the police station and cab offices. They give an advertisement in the newspaper and announce a reward. But the necklace is not found.

Answer:
When they cannot find the lost necklace, the Loisels decide to buy another one. Mr Loisel uses his savings and also borrows money from others. In this way, they collect enough money to buy a similar necklace. Then they return the new necklace to Mme Forestier.

Answer:
The necklace changed the life of the Loisel family. They had to borrow a lot of money to replace it. To repay the debt, they lived a very hard life for ten years. Matilda did all the housework and her husband worked day and night. Thus, the necklace brought many problems in their life.

Matilda’s ruin was caused by her desire for luxury and show. She wanted to appear rich and beautiful. Because of this, she borrowed a necklace. When it was lost, she and her husband had to suffer for many years. She could have avoided this problem by telling the truth to her friend.

If Matilda had told the truth to her friend, she would not have suffered so much. Her friend might have forgiven her or told her that the necklace was not very costly. Then Matilda and her husband would not have needed to borrow money and live in poverty for many years.

If I were in such a situation, I would tell the truth to my friend immediately. I would explain that the necklace was lost and say sorry for my mistake. I believe honesty would solve the problem and prevent bigger troubles.
